Hilo Intermediate will become the third Big Island middle school to start a new program to keep kids out of trouble and boost their knowledge of Hawaiiana and testing scores once school lets out for the day.

A nonprofit group is doing volunteer environmental work, litter removal and other caretaker services at Honuapo under a new partnership with Hawaii County.
